It is an approach that concentrates on connecting individuals and their families experiencing homelessness by means of moving them from the streets or temporary shelters into stable housing.<\/p>\n<p>This approach requires no preconditions to access to stable housing like community-compliance requirements and treatment clearance, and is centered on personal choice and lifelong recovery.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018housing first\u2019 program is complemented with support intervention programs to reassure the stability of housing, hence, preventing people from returning to homelessness.<\/p>\n<p>Through added support services, overall quality of living is improved among the recipients of the housing first program. Most of all, they are taught on how to foster self-sufficiency and personal responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>The housing first approach added with another innovative approach has been proven to be very effective in resolving the problem of homelessness, particularly chronic homelessness.<\/p>\n<p>It has resulted in improved physical and behavioral health, permanence in residency, and the reduced dependency on emergency services like rehabilitation centers, treatment facilities, jails, and other emergency departments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The \u2018housing first\u2019 approach is a well-developed strategy to successfully and swiftly end homelessness.
