Make Poverty History Manitoba Election Action

Make Poverty History Manitoba has launched a "Vote to Make Poverty History" campaign for their provincial election. 

Make Poverty History Manitoba  will be asking all provincial political parties if they will commit to achieving our campaign goals and to explain how they will achieve them.  They will be posting their responses on their website at: http://makepovertyhistorymb.com/campaign-goals/.

Make Poverty History Manitoba’s 2011 Provincial Election Campaign Goals are to see the Province of Manitoba:

  • Implement a comprehensive and systematic action plan, with targets and timelines, to reduce and ultimately eliminate poverty in Manitoba. This action plan must aim to achieve the following objectives:
  • Housing – Ensure accessible, safe, and affordable housing is available to all Manitobans.
  • Income Security – Ensure a sufficient income is received by all Manitobans to meet their basic needs and participate fully in community life.
  • Education – Ensure access to quality childcare and educational programs is afforded to all Manitobans through which, those who are able, can develop the skills and knowledge required to gain meaningful employment and participate in society as informed citizens.
  • Neighbourhood and Community – Ensure all communities have sufficient resources to enable their residents to actively participate in the improvement of their lives and the communities they live in.
  • Transportation – Ensure accessible and affordable public transportation is available to urban based Manitobans.
  • Disability Supports – Ensurepersons with disabilities in Manitoba achieve full inclusion in the social, cultural, political and economic spheres of society.
  • Health – Ensure publicly funded physical and mental health services are accessible to all Manitobans.
  • Strengthen existing provincial poverty reduction legislation to ensure accountability for results.
