Welland, ON

Since Social Forum V at St. Kevin's Parish on April 28th, there has been a lot of publicity about our fast approaching first Poverty Summit. The Summit is a natural follow-up to Social Forum V. There exists now a Blueprint for Poverty Reduction in Ontario. Our Poverty Summit calls us together to make a special Blueprint for Welland. This is a "personal" invitation to you to say that we would love to have you join us.

BC needs a plan to reduce poverty

Committing to a strong poverty reduction strategy is one of the best things a government can do to fight poverty. That's why we got involved in the upcoming BC election, asking the main political parties to commit to implementing a clear poverty reduction strategy if they are elected.

We are working with the BC Poverty Reduction Committee, a coalition of BC-based organizations who have asked the three major political parties to tell us where they stand on developing a poverty reduction plan. The parties were sent an open letter calling for a comprehensive plan with targets and timelines, and commitments in 7 different policy areas. They also heard the call through your various efforts: writing letters to the party leaders, contacting your MLA candidates and asking questions at all-candidate debates.

Here is a summary of their responses:
