With the help of our supporters, we sent letters, hosted events, engaged with our MPs, and broadcast our message to media outlets across the country. From coast to coast to coast, we put Stand Up on the map with over 100 events hosted and supported by committed activists like yourself.

At a glance…

  • well over 100 Stand Up events from one end of the country to the other
  • Exciting media coverage across the country – including over 22 radio stations broadcasting our Stand Up PSA
  • thousands of people took part in Stand Up online: on Facebook, Twitter and on our Stand Up website
  • and globally: well over 1300 events in 74 countries around the world

But, we still have work to do:

This year, Stand Up took place ahead of the UN Millennium Development Goals summit. In the lead up to this week's conference, over 4000 Canadians sent our government a message to take bold action at the summit on the UN MDGs. Our effort to persuade Harper to attend the summit was a landmark victory, and we have since taken to pressuring him to step-up Canada's commitment to the Millennium Development Goals.

Make Poverty History has dispatched our National Coordinator, Dennis Howlett, and Eve Cubelo to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals Summit in New York, from which they'll be blogging and reporting back regularly. Read more and keep up to date on the UN MDG Summit in New York.
